Introduction to Stick Welding (SMAW) 2-Day

Introduction to Stick Welding is two-day introductory workshop designed for beginners and hobbyists. Whether you want to give welding a try before pursuing a more comprehensive course or you just need to learn the basics for diy projects, this workshop is a perfect place to start. 

 

We begin the workshop on Saturday morning at 9:00 with an hour of instruction covering safety practices and basic weld theory and terminology. After the initial instruction and demonstration, students are provided with materials andassigned a boot where they will spend the rest of the class welding with guidance from the instructor. Every student will start at the same place, after the first hour or two, they are encouraged to move through increasingly difficult welds at their own pace for the rest of the workshop we will conduct destructive tests on practice welds and learning inspection techniques along the way. Our goal with this workshop is to provide students with practical and flexible instruction that can be taylored to the style of welding they plan to do after the workshop. When you sign up for this workshop, if you have a specific topic within stick welding you wish to learn, let us know so we can make adjustments to the workshop to better fit your needs.

All Protective equipment is provided for the duration of the workshop, this includes a helmet, gloves, sleeves or a welding jacket and eye and ear protection. Students are allowed and encouraged to bring their own PPE if they already have it, as well as their own machine if they want additional guidance on machine setup and settings on their specific machine. 

Class begins at 9:00 am and goes until 3:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday, Please arrive by 8:45 to fill out the safety waiver and recieve your PPE so we can begin promptly at 9:00 am.

 

Age requirements: We allow students as young as 14 years old with parental consent, a parent or guardian must be present to sign the consent form and provide at least two emergency contacts for any student under the age of 18. Minors do not have to be accompanied by a parent for the duration of the course, make sure if your child is not able to drive that they have reliable transportation to and from the shop and that they pack a lunch.
